Well I agree with prior commenters on how this is an interesting find, I'm a bit confused as to how a pregnant male teenager ties in with religious imagery. Are they trying to convey that homosexuality and sex before marriage are abominations, or was it just randomly thrown in for shock value?

I don't think it exploded. I think his water broke explosively, but the belly was intact. Look closely right before they cut to the tree, a large amount of fluid starts to quickly pool under his butt. What hit the tree after the cut looked like more of the same, and if they had cut back to him I imagine he would have been violently bearing down.
