The day had dragged on, just as every Friday seemed to. Desmond's two morning classes had gone by without much fuss, of course he'd spent most of his time in the back listening to music rather than listening to the professor but that was beside the point. He'd only been at the university for less than a year and kept his distance from most of the other students. No because he was a loner but rather because he was horrid at small talk and thus not the best conversationalist unless it was profitable.
As it was, he was currently on his way towards the university's cafeteria for lunch. Since it was already half past noon it wasn't crowded but that also meant there weren't many options to eat. Making his way towards the meals still available, he watched as another student filled his plate with the remaining chicken and rice choice and frowned.
Turning towards the student he offered a wide and friendly smile. "Is that the last of it?" he asked, despite knowing the answer himself. "That's a shame." There was a sudden change in his voice, a more methodical melody to each spoken syllable. "You know, that's really my favorite. I was kind of looking forward to it." Not exactly true but the meal certainly looked better than the spaghetti that had clearly been picked clean of meat by other hungry students, leaving nothing but tomato sauce and noddles.
"Oh," the student responded, suddenly feeling a creeping sense of guilt. "Well here, I guess you can have it. I'll find something else then."
"Thanks," Desmond responded, voice back to normal as he took the plate from the other student. Turning on his heels without a second thought he found a seat close to the windows and started in on his reward.

“By what right does the wolf judge the lion?"
