Okay, I have found the fundraising site which lists fundraising for post-production as completed (even though they appear to have only met about 70% of their goal?) and there is more information on the site about what we can expect from this film :)
Shortest summary:
“Russell is barely coping with his unexpected pregnancy, and now he has to live with the duck who's responsible and his repressed French clown housemate, Jacques.
The question ‘How can you be surrounded but completely alone?’ but in comedy series format!”
Longer summary:
“The show in a nutshell? Louie the Duck saves Russell from a mugging. After walking him home safely, the sparks are flying. Eight months later, Russell is pregnant. Stuck in the depths of his lowest low, he still obsesses over his one-that-got-away, Mary. Meanwhile, Louie has settled in permanently, much to the confusion of Russell's long-time housemate, Jacques. Jacques expresses his repressed friendship frustrations through his prestigious clowning show, while Louie and Russell's relationship boils in the pressure cooker of this Aussie sharehouse. Things. Get. Weird.
This comedy series packages the crushing loneliness of self-hatred inside a wrapping of pregnancy, ducks, and clowns; tied off with a neat bow of mateship. Some mental health conditions are now considered acceptable to share, but others... less so. To feel ashamed or misunderstood is human, but so is our need for help. We want to take the heart-wrenching & painful absurdity that life tends to throw at us and bring it out of the shadows with comedy. Opening a conversation about your struggle can feel impossible, and it’s so important to us that nothing is too weird, no one is too sick, and no issue is outside the realm of compassion. Addressing this in an accessible and entertaining format is the core purpose of Domesticated which makes for a strong drive towards completion – we want our audience to watch this and feel seen.”
Sounds intriguing and very well thought out. I wonder if the gravity of what they are trying to portray will translate to a more realistic look at male pregnancy instead of the usual corny jokes about being overly emotional and what not… We shall see!
