I honestly truly enjoyed it. It was so touching, very emotional and realistic, which is the type of mpreg that I love!!

Saw this last night finally. It was alright, but wasn't something I was expecting. More depressing than anything else. And it actually made me angry (I know that sounds dumb) watching how stupid and incompetent the black nurse was. I was hoping for a more comedic spin and this certainly isn't it. Also was disappointed because I thought it was going to go through the whole 9 months. Not just the end part at the hospital. All in all. I give it maybe a 3 out of 10. The prosthetic belly at least was amazing.

I agree that the nurse was an idiot. That's the only thing I didn't like about this movie.

Yeah, I'll third the opinion of the nurse... :s
And while it did have its moments, (mostly from Stephen Mangan who I thought did great with the role) I really have no intention of seeing it again. Not because it wasn't good; but because it isn't my preference.
Take 'Junior' for example. (Yes, I'm one of those people who actually liked it. ;) ) 'Junior', while it had its heartfelt and dramatic moments, was mostly played for comedy. 'Birthday' did have its comedic moments (dear god breaking his water...) but it was mainly played seriously straight almost to the point of being uncomfortable. Especially with the final argument they had which was enough to make me squirm...
Which while I do think that the feelings and emotions brought to the front during 'Birthday' would be the most realistic considering the scenario and circumstances, I've never been a huge fan of angst and this was pretty angsty from basically start to finish. So if you enjoy angst and realism, by all means give it a shot. But I think I'll stick with 'Kangaroo Man' as my mpreg film of choice.

Totally agree with you there, Ruby.
I'm actually at a loss of why it was labeled a comedy when the only comedic parts were probably a whole 2 minutes out of the 50 minute stretch. After it was done I was thinking to myself "I got all excited for this crap?" lol I thought it was stupid to call his wife a stupid bitch. Oh, and another gripe. Why cut to black at some sections and display "BIRTHDAY" at nearly every scene cut? yeah, we get the idea.
The whole point of a movie is for the title to be shown once. Not every time a scene ends and a new one begins. So yeah, was disappointed. They certainly weren't academy award winning actors but weren't all that bad. It was just a lot of empty space with them waiting around and cussing at each other. Pretty damn dumb.

Well, keep in mind this was a tv movie, so I imagine the "Birthday" screens occurred before and after commercial breaks. Also, this movie is based on a stage play that only takes place in his hospital room and yes, the actors in the play also stood and sat around talking to each other.

I actually liked the Midwife. She was incompetent yes but she was also rather insightful at times.
I didn't care for how angsty it was though, it made the movie rather uncomfortable at times. The Prosthetics were brilliant though.

As a theatre lover I enjoyed the monoloug(y) parts the most from the film. It makes from some great stoned entertainment. IF this film was trying to reach a larger audience for the play then it did its part very well. On the downside, I felt that the film did not even attempt to make comedy happen. I mean it is a pregnant man for christ sakes! Ham that shit up! But in all seriousness, I'm just saying that the film would have been more effective if the plot was more stretched out. I'm sure this was a discussion amongst the crew of this production and after creative differences cooled down they made a happy medium of just putting the play directly on screen. I think for now this just needs to remain a stage play where it can reach its full potential of appreciation.

Actually I quite liked the tone. Having a baby really is a serious medical thing to go through. Nurses are like this. It's a real, adult take on having a child.

This is now on YouTube in full and I've become like....stupidly obsessed with watching it.
I haven't fallen this deeply in love with anything since the angry young man video but since this is almost an hour long it's so much better. AND it's good even without the mpreg "gimmick." It's good too because it's not even used like a gimmick. God I love this shit.

Wow. So weird how when I commented only one page was showing. Did I just miss the other pages????????? Gosh I must have but that seems so unlikely! Weird.
This film kicks ass, hands down, especially if you've ever suffered trauma in life or know anything at all about hospital birth and I thought the acting was so fucking on spot.
