Teirney's Labor Ward for Supernatural Deliveries (open)
#1
Teirney's Labor Ward for Supernatural Deliveries is a wing of a large complex of hospitals devoted to maternity. When an expectant mother or father goes into labor with something less than human, they come to Dr Robin Teirney, the lead cryptological midwife. Specialized in delivering a wide breadth of species, she takes on the most difficult cases in the hospital. But because she and her nurses only receive parents about to give birth, they have to be constantly on their toes for the next urgent case. They are often overwhelmed by the amount of critical cases and injured carriers. There's a reason the fatality rate is higher in this wing than any other part of the hospital.

This is an open roleplay free for anyone to join in. You can play either a nurse or a carrier. Remember that carriers are only brought to this part of the hospital if they are currently in labor. I'm not interested in describing prenatal care.

Please fill out the forms below before jumping in. Both fpreg and mpreg are welcome.

Name - Dr. Robin Tierney, lead doctor/midwife

Gender/sex - cis woman

Appearance - She has tan skin and curly golden hair. She wears a white lab coat over her pale pink scrubs. She's below average height.

Personality - Despite her cute appearance, she is driven and dedicated to her job, which can make her seem cold. She will do anything to help her patients, even if it seems gruesome or risky. Her skill at improvisation and pulling off untested procedures has saved countless carriers.

Species - Human

Backstory (optional) - Tierney was raised in poverty in a ghetto primarily occupied by oppressed supernatural creatures. As a result, she realized that their healthcare is greatly lacking. She witnessed friends die because certain drugs don't work on their species, or they were accidentally poisoned by an ignorant doctor. So she dedicated her life to learning the most effective ways to treat people who are not human.

The nurses wheeled Amanda into one of the birthing suites. While one checked her dilation, Tierney questioned her patient.

“I see you’ve been having contractions for 6 hours Amanda,” she said, “how are your pain levels on a scale of 1 to 10.” Elf births are known to get especially painful, but elven bodies do not metabolize pain medications the same way. High levels of pain could lead to shock, cardiac arrest, or fetal distress.

“She’s 4cm dilated,” the nurse relayed to the doctor.

Tierney frowned. That wasn’t good at all. Elf bodies were highly sensitive to pain and she knew Amanda’s body might give out if she was forced to endure this for much longer. She felt along her stomach, trying to find the baby’s head. She noticed that one of the twins had shifted, becoming transverse. This meant it was sideways against the cervix, impossible to birth without intervention.

“Amanda, I’m going to need to reach into your womb and turn your child around. I need you to try to breathe and not panic. It is going to hurt a great deal.”

“It will be impossible to push your child out in this position.” Without further preparation, she shoved her hand into Amanda’s womb. She had to go in up to her forearm to reach the child. She began to adjust its position, trying to ignore Amanda’s screams.

“Someone get her fucking oxygen so she doesn’t pass out,” the doctor shouted. A nurse put an oxygen mask on her face but it didn’t seem to calm Amanda down. Bruises were beginning to form on her pale, nearly translucent skin as the doctor struggled to get the child into position. Amanda’s hips and birth canal were abnormally small and tight. As the doctor shifted her forearm, something for and blood dripped down Amanda’s legs. The screaming had become deafening, but this baby was stubborn.

“DONT PUSH,” the doctor warned. The child was almost in the correct position but if the mother started pushing, it may become transverse again. The other twin began kicking, noticeable bulges showing along the mother’s belly. Tierney bit her lip and kept trying to adjust the child, even as more blood dropped into the bed.

"the child needs to be positioned correctly so it can fit in your birth canal." As the doctor finally got the child into position, something else ruptured inside the mother causing blood to spurt out around the doctor's arm.

"I need a blood transfusion and fluids! Isotonic for elven systems STAT."

AS the doctor removed her hand from Amanda's womb, the nurses set up the transfusion. Now that the child's head was engaged, the contractions would become even more violent.

"You need to push now. You're losing blood too quickly for labor to drag on." The doctor was concerned. The baby could easily get stuck in the mother's tiny pelvis for hours. Would the elf woman survive this birth?
