Kage dwelled on the technician's thoughts. He hadn't thought about how the kids would do without him. He decided on a plan and he took action. Later that night, in the breeders quarters. A knock was heard at Jasper's room. Kage stood outside, hoping Jasper was inside.

The door whooshed open, revealing Jasper with freshly washed hair while wearing a pair of blue pajama shorts and a white t-shirt that hugged his belly. "O-Oh, Kage!" he gasped and immediately blushed. "Oh my gosh, I'm not dressed for company." The youth tugged on his shirt. His bare feet turned inward shyly. Kage was the last person Jasper expected to see, especially after the conversation at the labs. "Um... Would you like to come inside?"

Kage nodded as he walked in, noting no difference in the room. "Nothing has changed." He noted as he walked to the window, seeing the simulated swamp on screen.

Jasper pressed his hand on the lock, prompting the door to close once Kage was inside. "Hm? Oh, well, no... I suppose nothing has changed." He came up behind the soldier, glancing at the swamp and then at Kage's muscular back. "Are you surprised? I mean, the chance to redecorate doesn't come up often. Not like we really have the resources to be changing paint colors or furniture styles on a whim, you know? Um..." Jasper tucked some wet hairs behind his ear. "Was there something you wanted to talk about?"

"Yes. I was thinking of what happened earlier." He said as he fiddled with the window settings, changing from swamp, to desert to tropical. "You have done these pregnancies alone, correct?" Kage asked as he looked at the window.

Jasper nodded. "Yes, that's correct." He frowned a little when Kage kept changing the view settings on his window. Did Kage not like swamps? "But I mean, I'm not the only breeder to go through a pregnancy alone. A lot of us do. Some of them prefer not to be tied down to a soldier, but I guess I get kind of lonely," the blond admitted. "Having the support of a partner would be nice. That's how I feel, at least."

"I've never really thought of being with someone. Let alone have kids with that person. Maybe I'm afraid of commitment, or just afraid of raising a bunch of kids. Either way, I should take some responsibility." Kage explained before he returned the window to the swamp setting.

"Really?" Jasper was surprised to hear Kage say all of this. The soldier was so adamant just a few hours ago about his only prerogative being the death of Harbingers and their queen. "I mean, we won't have the responsibility of raising the children when they're born," he explained. "After the birth, newborns are taken directly to the neonatal unit at the very top of the tower. All children are raised there by specialists. When the war ends and we all go back to the surface, I don't think we'll even know which kids are ours. As for the commitment of a relationship..." Jasper walked around so he was in front of Kage and looked up at the soldier with his striking blue eyes. "We can take that slowly. I'm really glad though, Kage, that you want to stay with me. I'll be the first person to endure a pregnancy like this, so... I'm glad I won't have to do it alone."

Kage nodded. "Since we are in this together, perhaps I should stay here. To keep an eye on you after all." Kage suggested as he moved closer to Jasper, towering over the young man.

Jasper gasped quietly. Kage was so intimidating in size, but beneath his stoic exterior, Jasper could tell there was the heart of someone who only wanted to protect others. The soldier was all muscles and height and brute strength. Those ice blue eyes gazed expectantly, yet a bit hesitantly down at the blond. This was something Kage had never done before, so Jasper understood he might have reservations.

"I don't mind you moving in," Jasper finally conceded. "I'll put in a request for a larger bed and you can move your stuff in as soon as tomorrow." He put a hand on his belly. "Keep up with your training and other duties however you normally would. I'll do my best not to be a distraction."

Kage nodded before he looked down at Jasper's belly. He kneeled down until he was eye to bellybutton to Jasper's belly. "So there's 11 kids in there?" He asked before he reached up to touch Jasper's belly, hesitant to touch it. "May I?" He asked.

Jasper nodded. "That's what Dr. Richardson said. He's done several ultrasounds to confirm, but he said there could be as many as thirteen or fourteen. It's hard to tell because there are so many bodies that they could be hiding each other." He lifted the shirt, revealing his already ripe belly. Jasper obviously did a lot of growing the last couple of months, but he didn't have a single stretch mark yet. The medical team was taking good care of him. His plump bellybutton protruded proudly off his pregnant form. "You can touch. It's all right," Jasper replied with a small smile.

Kage started to rub Jasper's belly, moving his hands across the smooth surface. He then placed his thumb on Jasper's bellybutton, rubbing with the pad of his thumb before he softly pressed it in. Kage was strangely attracted at Jasper's belly the more he looked at it. He then placed his head against Jasper's belly, listening in on whatever lies within.

Jasper's blushed turned brighter when those large, rough hands moved so gently across his skin. Blue eyes watched Kage. The soldier's curiosity was sort of cute. "Haaa..." He gasped quietly as Kage's thumb toyed with his navel. The sensation sent a shiver through his body and his fingers curled tighter into the fabric of his shirt. A symphony of tiny heartbeats sounded from his womb against Kage's ear. The ripe, nine month-sized belly had a long way to go. "Have you ever seen a pregnant breeder up close before?" Jasper asked shyly.

"No. I've only kept my distance." Kage said as he continued to rub Jasper's belly, pressing his thumb deep into Jasper's bellybutton.

Jasper couldn't help chuckling. "Why? It's not like we bite or anything." He gasped a little louder and the blush on his cheeks darkened as the man continued toying with his fat navel. "K-Kage..."

"You all look so....fragile." Kage said as he stood up. "What were you going today?" He asked suddenly as he wanted to learn more about Jasper.

Jasper had to catch his breath a little before answering. "Today?" he echoed. He glanced at the clock on the small table beside the bed. It was late, but he decided there wasn't any harm in staying up to entertain the soldier. "Well, I worked on my origami this morning," he said and gestured to the desk littered with colored paper. "I decided to try tackling those cranes you talked about."

Suddenly realizing his shirt was still bunched up over this chest, Jasper quickly tugged it back down. "As for when you came to the lab, I was there for a routine inspection. All the breeders have to visit the labs at least once a week. We get ultrasounds and injections. Dr. Richardson said I'll have to be seen more often now and receive more injections than usual. Because my pregnancy is so high risk now."

"That is unfortunate. Going in for all those injections, I would hate that. I don't know how you would do it." Kage said before he took some of the paper and started to gold it. In just a few seconds, Kage created a Japanese style dragon.

"It's an easy choice, really," Jasper said with a little shrug. "All breeders have artificial wombs implanted in us during surgery. It's been that way ever since the women died. Some of the injections are to prevent our bodies from attacking the womb, you know... thinking it's a germ or something. Two of the injections are for fertility; one is eggs injected straight into the ovaries and the other makes us receptive to sperm. Other types of injections help maintain the pregnancy. I mean... the babies or I could die without a regular dosage of hormones, antibodies, and stabilizers."

Jasper watched Kage fold the paper into a dragon and his eyes widened. "You're very good at that."
