I'm a bigger dude, and I'm not really sure how to simulate without it looking like just my normal big belly.

You can try to use pillows and shape them to be round and pad with those. Make them like a big ball and try that. Can you post pics when u try?

In my experience being a bit on the chunky side, one of the things that helps me is to focus the padding specifically on the belly so it looks disproportionately large and tight.
