C Deep in the Jungle (closed with OrangeFanta)

After years of studying theories and speculations, Aaron had finally managed to get an expedition funded--and he was ecstatic. Deep in the Central American jungle was where he found himself spending his last two weeks, desperately searching for any sign of a lost civilization, unrecorded by history. Much like the fabled El Dorado, this lost civilization may not have been accessible to their neighbors, or even to Spanish conquistadors back in the day.

The people and their civilization had no name. Simple carvings and other sculpted pieces had been found in other nearby sites, but they were anomalies that didn't fit with what was known about any Aztec or Mayan relics. They were simple enough: standard fertility idols and such. But Aaron had sensed there was something more, and had finally found his way to see what was what.

He himself was not necessarily fit for exploration. Aaron was only 5'8", and weighed just 130 pounds. He was operating from a small town just outside the jungle, but didn't have the money for the supplies to bring anyone else with him into the forest. One humid morning, he'd squeezed his round ass into the khaki pants they'd provided (a size too small if he could judge) and a light blue linen shirt. He set off with a machete in one hand to clear away the brush and vines. He was nearly ready to give up for the day when he found a clearing that wasn't marked on any map...a crystal clear pond with a waterfall feeding into it, surrounded by colorful flowers and fruited plants that he couldn't identify in his field manual. He decided a break by the water would help him regain some energy before the long hike back...
