RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - Hyenadog - 03-23-2016

The raiders weren't too bright, most of them having fried their brains on chems. They made too much noise, making it easy to track them and put them down. But their leader was different. He had training and used chems properly. He knew how to manipulate his druggy followers, and he needed to get into the vault. It would be a great home base once they cleared out the inhabitants.

Sadly, the power had been cut to the elevator and the vault door and none of them had a pip-boy to even interface with the controls. They had managed to pull the panel off the back of the controls and were trying to patch in another terminal, but it was taking too long. Since everyone was too focused on getting in, nobody really noticed when Caleb snuck into the basement where the door was. There were about ten raiders and "Lugnut", their leader in a power armor frame with scrap armor. Most of them carried knives or machetes, but a few had rifles...Lugnut himself carried a machine gun and a super-sledge.

"Come on, I gave you my entire stash of Mentats, get that damn door open!" Shouted Lugnut at the one hacking the terminal. he was getting impatient.

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - SRuiz - 03-24-2016

Caleb had found his way through the bottom of the hospital in little to no time. The Raiders that were roaming around on the floors above were taken out. It did not take him an entire time to get through them either, but he did at times regret having to kill others. That sort of thing kind of weighed in on the conscience, especially since he was young in the first place.

He hid among the large group that were beginning to access the hidden vault. Their leader, he was assuming, only wore the frame of a Power Armor. While it was significantly less from the actual power the suit could have if it had decent parts attached, he would still be a formidable figure to fight with just a pistol. That was not also counting that with him were nine others and while they had a lot of melee weapons, some of them carried guns. The male contemplated how he was going to go about this. Should he wait for help to arrive or should he attempt such a risky fight? Thoughts weighed in as they were probably close to getting the door open.

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - Hyenadog - 03-24-2016

Most of the raiders in the upper parts of the building were too high on chems to notice an intruder picking them off one-by-one...so it made for a pretty easy entrance. One did shout, but the raider who came to investigate was just as easily taken down. While killing a person was never a good choice, many of the raiders wouldn't hesitate to kill an intruder.

Lugnut had his back to Caleb, offering up his power armor's weakness, its fusion core. a few well placed shots would cause it to overload and be ejected from the frame, followed by a powerful explosion, likely taking out several of the lackeys around it. It would also render the armor useless and force Lugnut out of his protective shell...

The problem was, Lugnut didn't stand still for very long, pacing back and forth before turning to shout at the hacker again...

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - SRuiz - 03-26-2016

With each try, which in itself took a lot of patience and a lot of prayers so that he would not mess up, he managed to take out the raiders. All of them minus the leader of course. Most of them hallucinated that he was some kind of drug deity coming to supply them with more. He did of course, with mercy killings. Not something he truly preferred, but they were Raiders and he was of the Commonwealth. It was either him or them and it sure would not be the former if he could help it.

It didn't take the young male any hard thinking to know that the main target itself was exposed on the leader's back. A core was more than enough to send the rest of them sky high. The problem however lied in getting the gun-toting idiot around him to stop moving around. He waited again to seize the moment, lining the sight of the gun to his eyes. When the back was exposed, Caleb fired away, taking the gambit. He did not have to hit the core particularly, but just enough around it to cause it puncture and be inflamed by the heat the bullet themselves caused when leaving the chamber. He did not just fire blindly either. He made the gun fire when his back was exposed in an angle that would cause him to have a hard time turning around in time to avoid getting hit to the back. Caleb could still miss, but he would have to hope at this point he didn't. Hope and take cover a lot.

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - Hyenadog - 03-26-2016

There was little hope of re-integrating the Raiders into society anywhere, they were too burned out on chems, so killing them did everyone a favor. Their boss, on the other hand, wasn't a drugged up lunatic. He was just in it for his own gains.

When Caleb opened fire on Lugnut, he tried to turn around fast enough, but heard the hiss of the core being punctured and felt the heat race up his back. "SHIT, YOU BASTARD!" He shouted, opening fire on the last spot he noticed Caleb. His armor frame ejected the core and he tried to move away, but moments later it exploded, killing the rest of his crew and fatally injuring Lugnut. Trapped in his armor, he could only lay there and bleed out.

The Vault remained sealed with no sign of activity from within. A few minutes later, some guards from the museum showed up, only to sigh and lower their weapons. "You know, you could have waited for us...." said one, looking to Caleb.

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - SRuiz - 04-16-2016

((Sorry for the delay. Been a bit busy as of late lol))

Caleb's face scrunched up in a bit of disgust. He wished the entire armor had went kaboom, making chunks of flesh in the process. It would have spared him the ordeal he saw before him, a messed up body bleeding out before him.

"What would be the fun in that?" He pointed towards the dead figures. "They had the alarms already blaring. If they got into the vault, they probably would very well be on their way to finding something that could kill us."

No need to be intelligent and provide insight for his actions. He was young and adventurous, sometimes a little cocky. He wanted to obtain a bit of glory for himself. Regardless of how it turned out though, the deed was done and now here they were before a hidden vault.

"You think their coding would have gotten it open?"

It looked like some kind of program was still working it's way on the door, though Caleb did not have the full wisdom to know how to use such a device?

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - Hyenadog - 04-18-2016

It didn't take long for Lugnut to bleed out. Parts of his makeshift armor had been forced through the frame and cut vital areas. It proved how awful raiders were at making armor for power armor frames.

The men who had come to assist Caleb just sighed, one of them going to check the computer. "Looks like they were close..." he said, typing away at the console. Lights started flashing as something within the vault moved. The grinding of gears could be heard before a sharp hiss came from around the gear shaped door. It slid back, screeching metal-on-metal, before rolling to the side....then silence.

"Uhh...." was the response from the man on the computer, looking into the vault. The main entrance was empty, sliding doors closed and locked. But beyond that was a horror show...the vault dwellers had gone mad, everyone was dead. Bodies everywhere, clearly in various states of pregnancy and obviously male...

Something horrible happened here, and Tobias was the only survivor.

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - SRuiz - 05-02-2016

Caleb watched as the big door began to undo itself and reveal what was inside. What normally was an adventure to him had turned into a nightmare. The male found himself coughing from the fumes the vault released which may have had something to do with the hordes of dead bodies lingering around in vault suits. He regretted he even went that far, but there were others who weren't bothered by the sight and by the smell.

"Well it's already done" one of them said "the least we can do is try to search for survivors or something else."

They were unphased and pressed further in, notifying the HQ they were going to proceed thanks to the Raiders successful attempts to ensure nobody obtained weapons. Caleb grabbed the scarf around his neck, placing it over his nose and mouth to get rid of the smell, unaware that there was a virus he was already exposed to the moment the door opened. He placed his goggles on for good measure. The less he saw of the bodies, the better. The worst thing was that it was all men and their stomachs all looked distorted in one form or another.

"Uhh, guys?" One shouted. "I think this one is moving!"

He was referring to the belly thrashing about through one of the dead figure's vault suit. At least they assumed he was dead. The man surged with life in his last few moments as with a final push, a slit made in his suit revealed a small form being pushed out from his body. While his breaths were few, the screams of a newborn were clear. Caleb was otherwise fully disturbed by the situation and immediately ran out the vault to vomit.

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - Hyenadog - 05-03-2016

The two guards both had gas masks on, typical for responding to calls like this. They had no idea there was anything lingering in the air, nor did they think to tell Caleb to put something on. They moved inside, flashlights on since many of the lights had been damaged or blown out.

"Jesus....What the fuck happened here?" one mumbled before the other shouted. Flashlights converged on the figure, followed by shocked noises. The one guard went over to see if anything could be done, but the newborn could only gasp a few times before falling still. He sighed and looked back to find Caleb had vanished, motioning to his partner to follow, they went out to him.

"Hey, Whatever was going on here, that vault dweller you picked up was around for it...Maybe you should go check on him...we'll call for more guys and check this place out." He said, patting the man's shoulder.

Tobias was still in Caleb's bed. Another resident had checked on him and gotten the doctor. But he assumed his illness was just reacting to the food, so he was offered some rad-away and clean water and left to rest.

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - SRuiz - 05-03-2016

Forget trying to explore the vault at this point, Caleb was practically through the moment he saw the body pile up.

"Yea, I'm gonna head back." Maybe it was easy for him to stomach kills from before because he shot from afar. Even looking at Lugnut's body again made him want to hurl more. That would make him no good for even wanting to explore the rest of the vault.

He walked back to the base an hour later, needing some time to regain composure after witnessing the incident. He washed himself off and soon entered his room to find Tobias resting on his bed.

"Sleeping on the wrong bed, buddy." He nudged the sleeping a male hoping he would stir enough so he would get off the bed. He had a lot of questions he was certain others were going to ask at this point. What had gone on in that vault was the main concern on his mind especially. Men...they didn't give birth. That scene just really disturbed him, especially since the child of the tragedy didn't even live out of it all. He probably was going to need to dabble in some liquor before the night was over with.

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - Hyenadog - 05-04-2016

"Alright, stay safe. We'll make a report and salvage as much as we can." said one guard, the other standing by and nodding. When Caleb left, they continued to make a sweep of the vault. They found everyone was dead, well, except for a few robots roaming the halls. They were taken out easily enough and were recorded for salvage. Many of the doors to the science areas and the overseer's office were locked, so they'd need someone to come get them open later.

Tobias groaned when he was nudged, curling up more, hands over his stomach. Upon pulling back the blankets, Caleb would find blood staining the crotch of Tobias' pants. He was clearly in pain and even running a fever...The sudden exposure to the radiation outside of the vault, along with the food, had caused him to miscarry. Confirming Tobias was like the men who littered the halls of his former vault....Capable of giving birth...

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - SRuiz - 05-04-2016

Caleb was a little perturbed at first, until Tobias groaned enough to move out the covers. He was clutching his stomach and from the looks of it, there was blood on the bed and coming out of his pants.

"Oh shit." He spared no time in running out the door, seeking one of the makeshift doctor's nearby. He was back within a few seconds with help. Of course in some form, he was worried, but once Tobias was being closely examined in the infirmary, Caleb was shooed out. It was minutes later when the news was announced. Tobias had a miscarriage and unfortunately, some more medicine was required, medicine that could be in the run down hospital. He could otherwise recover if they operated, but the male would need a higher chance of recovery with what was needed. With that, Caleb was gone again, back to the one place he didn't really want to be at for the moment. Least for him, he would be on one of the upper floors, if the place hadn't collapsed.

He flicked the flashlight on as he heeded into the dark corridors in search of something that would help. His 10mm pistol was drawn just in case anything other than Raider's appeared through the darkness.

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - Hyenadog - 05-04-2016

Tobias didn't say anything when he was moved to the infirmary, he just made pained noises and clutched at his stomach. He relaxed when he was given some Med-X, cutting down on his pain, but his modified anatomy made his misscarriage a bit more complicated than normal. Even though he was born like this, his anatomy was still the result of artificial modification of his parents. The doctor was worried when he found traces of modified FEV in his blood as well.

Half of the hospital hadn't collapsed yet, allowing Caleb a chance to find the medicine Tobias needed. The old building was eerily quiet, only the sound of radroaches scuttling through the walls could be heard. Many of the signs were still intact, pointing to the upper floors for the lab most likely to contain his goal. A few skeletons inhabited the lobby and various rooms, silently telling their story from the moment the bombs fell. Mothers with children, couples in a final embrace, groups laying by the doors to the pharmacy.

As he would move further up the building, Caleb would find signs that someone or something had been there. Footprints in the dust, a few dead and half-eaten radroaches. Then there was the final sign of what was living in the old hospital, a dead feral ghoul, partially consumed by other ghouls. Their shuffling footsteps echoed through the halls, followed by their grunts and growls, as if they were communicating with one another. The dead ghoul had the remains of a doctor's lab coat on, showing the ferals were likely what was left of the medical staff, too dumb to leave the building...But incredibly dangerous to anyone exploring.

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - SRuiz - 05-08-2016

Caleb peered through the dark corridors of the hospital, his flashlight on. The darkness reminded him of the night air, except this place was reeling of dust and some musty aroma that made him wish he could hold his breath indefinitely. He hoped whatever medicine was needed could be found here, the male looking at a sign that read "Maternity Ward."

The area was practically closed in, walls long collapsed over. When he saw a small hole, he took the opportunity to crawl through it until he made it to another area that seemed free from most of the fallout blast. Mostly. There was hardly any place in the world as far as he knew that wasn't untouched. Seeing the body of a feral ghoul confirmed this for him and immediately he turned the light off and began crouching. Chances were more were lying in wait for him. He couldn't afford to make a sound or give off any bright light that attracted them towards him.

He crawled for minutes, stopping when he heard a sound here and there. The male peered over the nurse's desk to see if he could make out anything. He heard a few grunts, but waited for them to subside, his gun at the ready just in case something happened.

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - Hyenadog - 05-08-2016

Some parts of the hospital were spared from the destruction of the bombs. Partly by being on the interior of the large building, and partly because collapsed walls shielded them. Those same walls trapped the few people who survived within, but didn't stop the slow contamination from radiation from seeping in and turning them into ghouls. Had they been free, they could have been a great use in the current world. Prewar ghouls who were doctors were few and far between, and these were long past saving.

Caleb would hear them shuffling about in the offices by the maternity ward. A few trapped by locked doors or fallen items could only be seen through cracked windows. The area Caleb was looking for was the Neonatal Intensive care ward, but of course there was a ghoul shambling around near it. Apart from the remains of a doctor's uniform, it was impossible to tell much about the individual. Its eyes glowing faintly as it looked around, nearly toothless mouth hanging open as it drooled and grunted. Its face and neck crusted in what looked like long-dried blood. Hands once trained for precise medical procedures were broken and twisted, fingertips worn away to expose bone that now acted like claws. A sad end for someone so highly trained.

It crouched by some bones, picking one up to gnaw on in its boredom...giving Caleb a chance to sneak past.

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - SRuiz - 05-17-2016

Caleb glanced up to look through the darkness. That didn't help him any, not when he was going around without a light for the sake of not wanting to get caught by the ghouls lurking therein with him. No. Instead, he would have to trust his senses and so the male lightly placed his hands in front of him, using them as a means to help stop him from bumping into things and not draw attention. He could have taken off, but running would make noise. Instead, he kept low, crawling slowly as he moved past the figure munching on who knew what.

He had a clearing for the time being. He did his best to use the light sparingly, turning it on the moment the sounds were well past his ears and using it in different angles just in case something was around. It was better than roaming around blindly and with luck, he was able to make out the particular area he had to search for in terms of seeking out the medicine. Just how would the medicine be in this particular time? Did radiation do away with it or did the plants in which created it repel radiation? He could only hope as he began searching from room to room. On most occasions, he kept finding a patient's room, but he may have finally hit the jackpot.

He was before a double door, which required keys. He didn't have them and it was possible that time rusted such a thing away. Instead, he had with him a few hairpins and screwdriver. Nobody used keys anymore these days. The male began to go to work on the door right away. Two broke, but they allowed him to find the door's spot and soon with the third, it both doors came unlocked. The male moved the rusted and slightly creaking bolts out the way, careful not to attract any attention if the ghouls heard anything for that matter. He crept inside the room and closed the door behind him for good measure.

His flashlight was turned on in the darkness and soon the male found an entire set of medicine placed in numerous cabinets and like the door he used to get in, locked away with locks. As he examined them closely, he noticed letters that marked the medicines on the wall by alphabetical order. He kept his gun close and moved slowly down the numerous rows of stored away medicine. When he came to his destination, he began to pick away at the lock again until it came aloose, various medicine bottles falling over. The male cursed as he opened his bag and began grabbing the bottles that was needed for Tobias and stored them in his bag. Maybe there was more he could find for other needs, but chances were he was going to need to get out immediately in case the noise had attracted any of the lurking ghouls. A team fully equipped could check back later. He opened the door and stormed down the corridors, light in hand as he moved swiftly. When a ghoul did come his way, he jumped over a gurney and jumped over their head, hoping in some way his weight probably snapped their skull in the process. Caleb saw the hole he crawled through and began to make his way for it.

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - Hyenadog - 05-17-2016

It was just Caleb's luck that ghouls tended to have a pretty short attention span. Even when one caught a noise, it quickly lost interest when nothing else happened. With each noise, they would pause and look around, eyes glowing dimly. One even looked right at Caleb, but he had stopped moving and crouched, so he didn't look like a person. Ghouls preferred moving targets anyway, meaning if one hid and stayed still long enough, they would wander off again.

When Caleb opened the old doors, a few ghouls stood and looked around. One even wandered past the door after it had been closed, running his mangled fingers over it in confusion. The concept of door handles had escaped him. But in hearing noises on the other side, he growled and pushed at the door (clearly labeled 'pull'), only to get knocked over when Caleb came rushing out.

Ghouls were also slow to react, so the quick movement of the man darting past them took a moment to process before they were growling and stumbling after him. Their vision in the dark wasn't much better than the man's, so they stumbled and tripped over things. One nearly caught him, but ended up being vaulted over and smashing his face into the floor instead.

While Caleb escaped through the hole, the ghouls squabbled over who was going first...then lost interest again. But now that they knew about the hole, they would likely wander outside and become a nuisance very quickly.

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - SRuiz - 05-17-2016

To say Caleb was exhausted was to be an understatement. The male had practically been through two missions in one day, both of which were taxing on his stamina which required him to do a lot more in terms of stealth than he would like. Still, he was a part of two major discoveries: the vault and the medicine room or lab. He wasn't sure of which it was, but either way, it had to help them.

He found out the hospital, the male hearing a few noises at the bottom where the vault was found. He didn't bother to check though. There was no way he was going back down there anytime soon. Instead, he headed back to the museum where they found refuge. The male opened the double doors of the entrance and headed inside.

"I hope this helps" he stated when handing the bottles to the doctor. "There's an entire room of medicine in there. Looks like when the building collapsed, most of the place in there was almost untouched by the fallout. Still, there are some ghouls up there that could use some weeding out."

He would put it in his report of course, but he felt the need to bring it up to the doctor as well.

"If that's everything for now, I'm going to get some rest."

He looked at the presumably sleeping Tobias and silently hoped the male got better. He walked out, stumbling a bit from what he assumed was fatigue. In truth, his body was reacting to the virus spreading in his system. Most of his body felt a little hot and a bit sensitive, but he thought it was just allergies working its way into his body again when he usually went to either damp or dusty settings. He reached in his bag and popped one of the prescribed pills the doctor had given him before and left for a warm and cold shower to help cool his body down.

Entering his room a meal and shower later, he looked at the mattress covered in blood. There was no way he was going to lay on that. Why did Tobias chosen his bed over the one he was given anyways? Caleb groaned in a sickly state as he moved the bed out the room entirely and replaced it with another. The male eased on the bed slowly, his mind drifting to a state of rest, but also thinking of the events that transpired. Was Tobias really pregnant? What went on in that vault?

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - Hyenadog - 05-18-2016

The doctor and his assistants were so glad to see Caleb that they didn't think to do a post-mission exam, instead he was offered some clean water to dehydrate and left to go on his way. Meanwhile, the doctor administered the medicine Caleb recovered to Tobias, getting a dull groan at the prick of the needle. The medicine was an experimental form of stimpak designed for healing after giving birth, but also helped in the case of a miscarriage gone wrong.

the assistants helped clean the young man up and dress him in loose comfortable clothes while he rested, the doctor taking note of his anatomy in the process. It was several hours later that he woke up, slowly sitting up and rubbing at his head. "What happened...?" He mumbled.

"You had a miscarriage....Did you know about your pregnancy?" Asked the doctor, looking concerned.

"I....I did. I guess." mumbled Tobias

"Caleb found the vault and we recovered some information. I'm sorry about what they did to you, but you're safe here." Said the doctor, patting the young man's shoulder. "We brought you some food, mostly soup made with clean water." He said, motioning to the tray.

Tobias ate slowly, his abdomen was still so sore. and when he finished, he was allowed to return to Caleb's room. He sighed when he found that the mattress he had been sleeping on had been moved to replace the one he dirtied...so he found another one and put it on one of the empty frames. With a little squeaking from the bed, he crawled in and curled up to sleep, unsure how his body would respond now that he wasn't pregnant anymore....if he would go into heat like he had before...he hoped not.

RE: Fallout (closed with SRuiz) - SRuiz - 05-19-2016

Caleb awoke when a knock came to the door. He groaned a bit through his disturbed sleep and walked towards the door to open it. Some of the makeshift doctors stepped in just to check in on Tobias.

"Do you mind?"

He shrugged. Of couse he didn't. If they needed a bit of privacy, he would just step out either rest in another room nearby or just walk around the halls and wait. Most likely, he would do the latter, though before walking out the door the doctors suggested bringing some clean water and soup and bread back. They needed Tobias to take some of the meds that required him to eat and drink from what was written on a few of the enhanced stim-paks. The male needed the cool air anyways. He couldn't explain it, but he felt a bit warm. That usually happened when he rested though. He walked down the halls a bit groggily and returned minutes later with the required items.

"How is he holding up?" He assumed that had to be a safe question.

The doctor nodded. "We're actually about to find out."

They waited for the male to stir from his sleep.

"Just try not to bombard him with too many questions though."
