Jacob woke up with a splitting headache. He groaned softly as he tried to sit up. When he opened his eyes, he found himself in a room made from stone that was growing over with vines and other plants. It was humid here, making his skin sticky. "Where am I...?"
"One of the few temples left standing in my image," replied a voice. Coming into the room was a tall, slender man with alabaster skin and feathers growing out from the sides of his head. "I've brought you here, dear boy, so that I might have enough time to do what needs to be done."
Jacob knew immediately that the man was Quetzalcoatl in some human form. Looking around again, Jacob found himself lying atop an altar. "You want to eat my children," the boy said bitterly.
Quetzalcoatl laughed. "That was the plan before, but I have something much better in mind." The wind god approached Jacob, and once he was close enough, pressed his palm to the boy's belly. There was a flash and Jacob yelped in pain. When Quetzalcoatl pulled his hand back, a very ancient marking had been branded on the stretched skin. "This mark," the wind god said with a grin, "will keep my son safe from the magic my brother will try using against him."
Violet eyes widened. "Like I'd ever let you put your son in me!" Jacob snapped.
Again, Quetzalcoatl just chuckled. "Dear, sweet boy... It's already done. I had hoped you could be awake for the event, but I couldn't waste time. My brother is hot on our trail after all. He's been fighting his way through my barriers for three days now. He's quite determined." A pearly smile spread across his face. "Ah... He's climbing the steps as we speak..."
