Jace looked at him scared and felt tears well in his eyes “W-What does that mean?” He said shaking a little. He felt that perhaps he had done something wrong to make his baby sick “What did I do?” He asked before he started to sob a little. He wiped his eyes trying to hold back the sobs “Is the baby going to die?” He asked shaking a little grabbing Liam’s hand tightly and wrapping the other around his stomach. He wasn’t scared about the anal sonogram, knowing it would be similar to insemination and that it was needed but he was just scared about his baby.

Liam kissed his boyfriends forehead lovingly and held his hand surely "it's literally a whole. You did nothing wrong, this happens just as some babies are born deaf or blind. It's not something the mother did, okay? You've been a perfect mother to your child." he sighted he didn't wanted to lie "best case scenario is mild and a surgery after birth will correct it. Worse case it's severe and the child might pass before birth or little after birth." he's aid and held him gently "I'm here with you and we will figure it out and do what best we can"

Jace curled into his boyfriend a little crying and gripping his shirt a little trying to calm himself down, knowing that if he was worried or anxious that would be worse for the child “I love you” he said quietly closing his eyes holding onto him tightly, not realising it was the first time he had said that to Liam but needing to in this moment. He heard chatter and knew the doctor had returned with the specialist, he took a shaky breath, he wasn’t sure if he was ready for bad news.

Liam smiled at the words and felt moved by them "I love you as well" he said kissing his lips gently before the specialist came in.

"let me help you get in the stirrups dear" he said aiding Jace to place each on the metallic rests

Jace bit his lip a little and smiled at the declaration of love although still overcome with how terrified he was for his child. He placed his legs in the stirrups whimpering at how cold they were before leaning back and looking at the roof trying to hold back tears as he wasn’t sure he would like to hear the news. The doctor gently told him they were about to enter the wand and he grasped onto Liam’s hand tightly biting his lip a bit before crying out quietly as it was entered, his hips automatically jutting up from the intrusion and his hold on Liam’s hand tightening

The doctor was as gentle as he could introducing the wand. The screen was turned on and at first the camera only showed pink walls of the canal before the wand entered the womb and a very clear image of the baby could be seen.

Liam held his boyfriend's hand through the process and paid close attention to what was appearing even if he had little idea as he wasn't a doctor much less a cardiologist.

Jace removed his eyes from the roof and looked at his boyfriend more so than the screen and the doctors, he was nervous but knew that Liam knew quite a bit about what was happening and could translate anything he didn’t understand. It felt weird having the wand inside him but he stayed as still as possible to ensure he didn’t do anything further to hurt the baby

Liam stroked his head till the test was done and wand removed.

"It seems it's a severe whole in the heart. But we are hoping we will be able to do surgery once the baby is born. We will be monitoring more closely from now on." the specialist said.

Liam felt terrible. He was as attached to the child as Jace.

Jace leaned into his touch a little feeling a small comfort from it. He burst into tears at the diagnosis covering his face with his arm as he cried for a few minutes. He pulled himself together a little “What does that mean? Extra scans? Do I have to stay in the facility? Do I need to be on bed rest? I’ll do anything to save my baby” he said

"It does means extra scans. For now I don't see it necessary you're kept her win the clinic, but rest is indeed the better course you don't want to strain as that strains the baby" the doctor said.


Liam rubbed his partner's back gently in a comforting manner "but so you suggest absolute bed rest or he can still work?" Liam asked the doctor.

Jace nodded listening to the doctor “Okay, I’ll do the bare minimum” he smiled weakly, he didn’t want to do anything that may cause the baby harm. He squeezed Liams hand gently sitting further up and wiping the gel from the first scan off his stomach. “How often should I come in for scans now? And as Liam asked, should I be on complete bed rest?”

"absolute bedrest will be ideal" the doctor said nodding.

"then traveling wouldn't be good for him so often. Maybe I could go stay with him to be able to perform the checks and send you the information so you can evaluate them" Liam offered holding his boyfriend's hand.

"I'll talk to your boss about it. It's what is best for Jace and his baby" he doctor said.

Jace squeezed his boyfriend’s hand gently smiling softly at him. He knew his boyfriend was doing that not just to cut travelling but to also make Jace more comfortable so he didn’t have to be in the clinical type of area. He kissed the back of his boyfriend’s hand gently before looking at the doctors biting his lip “Okay, thank you” he said quietly before he started to get up to go and get changed

*two months later *

Liam had made the move and stayed all these months with Jace at the farm.
Jace was in absolute bed rest, only standing up to use the bathroom. Liam aside from boyfriend because his caretaker, he would give him sponge baths, physical therapy to keep his muscles active and move so that he wouldn't get injuries from laying in the same position all the time.
He slept little as he feared in the nights Jace might need him so he always slept with an eye open.

Jace had just hit his seven month mark and they had gone back to the clinic for the specialist to do a scan. Due to Jace's pregnancy state he was admitted in the inpatient wing and settled in a suite for thr cardiologist to run the tests he needed that morning.

Jace smiled gently over at his boyfriend and squeezed his hand gently “Don’t worry, everything will be fine, they were having a party in there yesterday” he chuckled softly and rubbed his rounded belly, he looked almost full term due to the size of the baby and the fact he hadn’t been allowed to move much the past two months. He was excited for the final few months to hurry up as he was bored in bed all the time and wanted to be active, like he usually was with the farm.

He smiled as Liam helped him into the gown and then gently settled him onto the hospital bed. He pulled Liam to him by his shirt and kissed him softly “Thank you for taking such good care of us” he smiled against his mouth rubbing his stomach with his other hand.

"you always take by surprise when you take hold of me like this" Liam said with a chuckle as he kissed his lips lovingly "well I have to take care of my boyfriend and my kid, right?" he asked as he stood right up and took his hand as the specialist came in.

"How you've been Jace? Any aches yluw any to address today?" he asked gently.

Jace chuckles softly and smiled brightly at him “I love taking you by surprise” he smiled and looked over at the doctor shaking his head lightly “Nope, nothing new anyway, still aching back from the weight but nothing I can’t handle” he smiled brightly

Liam helped silently by rising up the medical gown to allowing the doctor to do the scan. He was glad his boyfriend was in a good mood and he knew it was due in great part to be out of bed in his room for a little while.

Cold gel was applied as the specialist began to move the wand around pressing with some force to get a clear picture

The baby was clear in the screen but to Liam it became apparent two things quickly. First there was no WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP sound from the heartbeat and two... There was no movement. He felt a sting in his chest and tears about to fall down his cheeks.

Jace rubbed the back of his boyfriends hand as he waited for the image to appear on the screen. He smiled seeing the little image on the screen, he didn’t notice the lack of sound or that his baby wasn’t moving. He turned smiling to Liam before realising him and the doctor were quiet and Liam seemed to be about to cry, he frowned quickly “What?” He said confused for a second feeling a lump in his throat and fear run through his body.

"I'm sorry Jace, the baby is gone. There's no heartbeat" the specialist said as he still kept looking with the wand but it was clear and apparent the child had passed.

"I'm really sorry. I know how much you both were waiting for this baby" he said.

Liam held his boyfriend close and hugged him.

"I know you don't want to hear this, but we will need to deliver the child now. Natural delivery will be best we can induce yet I understand it could be traumatic and you might desire for a c section"
