Beau leaned against him, the sun warm on his belly and face. Another contraction came and he breathed through it, keeping focused by counting in his head as it started at the top of his belly and moved down, a sharp pain that seemed to lodge itself in his lower back.

"And that one is over. How long?" asked Beau, trying to knead the small of his back.

"5 minutes. Should they be this close already?" He asked, wondering how long Beau had actually been in labor.

"Huh," Beau said, a little surprised. He rubbed his belly, looking down at it. "So I guess I was in labor earlier."

He actually felt a little embarrassed for not figuring out he was in labor. In his defense, he thought the contractions would have hurt more. Five minutes apart was active labor. All the videos they had seen in class, all the other people he had talked to had been in a lot of pain.

"I knew it. When we were walking earlier, you were having real contractions." Cole said feeling bad that he hadn't made him stop earlier in the day. "Babe, maybe we should get you into the tent and we can see how far along you are really. I have the birthing book. I can try to figure out how far along you are." Cole wanted to make sure that Beau had the babies on the air matress, it was a little cleaner then the ground.

Beau sighed, wanting to stay outside but reluctantly agreed. Cole helped him up off the ground and Beau groaned, his legs shaky from the weight. One of the babies had moved down and Beau felt like he had a bowling ball between his legs.

"One of them is in position," he grunted.

"Alright, let's get you laying down and I'll see what's going on." Cole said helping Beau into the tent and laying him onto the mattress. "Bend your knees and spread them a bit." He said. Once Beau did so Cole got between his legs. "I don't see anything babe. You want me to do a quick exam?"

"Yeah, in a moment," Beau said as another contraction started. This one was much more painful, gripping him tight around the middle and making his hips ache. He definitely did not want to stay in this position long. When it was done, he relaxed against the mattress. "I don't think I'm ready to push. I can just feel the one of them is in my pelvis."

Cole waited for the contraction to end before beginning the exam while looking at the birthing book. He followed the instructions and carefully inserted his fingers into his lovers opening. "According to the book, you are about 7cms dilated. Could be a few more hours. No need to be brave by the way. No one will hear you out here. We are completely alone. Scream if you need to. Groan, curse, whatever you need. Remember what the midwife said, use all of it to help your body cope with labor and delivery." Cole wanted nothing more then to help Beau through labor and reciting what they had learned in class was the best way he knew how.

Beau chuckled a little. "No problem, babe. To be honest, they're only just starting to really hurt." He squirmed on the mattress, trying to get on his hands and knees. With Cole's help, he managed to and let out a sigh of relief.

"Flat on my back hurts," he said, rocking his hips. "Can you rub my hips?"

Cole nodded and began to rub Beau's hips. "When you push, you might want to try on your side. It will take alot of the pressure from your back and you will have more help with leverage then you will on your hands and knees

"We'll figure that out when we get there," Beau said, closing his eyes and rocking into Cole's rubbing. The pressure was building in his pelvis. He felt another contraction start and he let out a low whine, panting and trying to remember everything they had learned in Lamaze class.

"Fuck," Beau groaned and he began to make a low, moaning sound. It helped him focus though through what was the longest and strongest contraction yet. "That one fucking hurt."

"They seem to be getting closer and stronger, our babies will be coming soon. That's a good thing love. You are doing great." Cole said as he tried to soothe Beau as best as he could.

Over the next few hours, Beau moved around trying to find a comfortable position as the contractions got worse. The best position was his arms around Cole's neck and Cole helping him stand as he rocked his hips. He kept vocalizing through the contractions, low and long, finding it easier to get through them when he made noise.

Finally he couldn't stand any longer and he collapsed back down on the air mattress, panting heavily and covered in sweat. "I'm fucking exhausted."

"I know babe but you are doing great. The babies will be here soon. I promise it will be over soon." Cole says rubbing Beau's belly. "You feeling any pressure?"

"Of course I'm feeling pressure!" Beau snapped. "I'm in labor!"

As if to prove his point, another contraction started and he cried out, curling around his belly and trying to pant through it, groaning low and long as it went on. He collapsed back on the air mattress and stared up at the tent roof.

"I don't feel an urge to push," he gasped out. "It's been hours. There's pressure but I don't feel like I need to push. Why don't I?"

"You probably aren't dilated enough. Give it time. It will happen soon." Cole says trying to be helpful. "Just give it time love. Our babies will be here soon."

"Can you check?" asked Beau. He let out another cry and punched at the mattress. "Make them stop! I don't want to do this anymore!"

"Just breathe." Cole says trying to calm Beau down a bit before doing another exam. "I think you are about 9cms. You're almost there. Just hold on a little bit longer love."

Beau tried not to cry when Cole told him he wasn't fully dilated yet. He just wanted this done, wanted these babies *out* of him.

Cole could tell how  tires Beau was getting but at this point, they had to wait for his body to get ready.
