Making your own silicone belly - possible?
#1
Hi there,

I have been looking at all those silicone belly prosthetics you can buy from moonbump etc but even the ones from china are expensive like this:

So I have been wondering how hard or easy it might be to make one yourself for a fraction of the cost and any size you want!

Here's what I'm thinking - you can buy liquid latex from any number of stores so surely all you have to do is get a suitable mould and pour it in and let it set. For a suitable mould I was thinking one of those punch balloons could simply be filled with the liquid latex and then put down on a hard surface to provide a flat side to lay against your own stomach later. When the latex has set then surely you just have to peel off the balloon mould and you're left with a realistic wobbly latex rubber belly form that you can then put inside either a swimsuit or one of those belly support things that I use:

I'm not very good at DIY and it looks like most of the commercial bellies that simulate full term weigh about 4kg-7kg so I found a 5Kg supply of liquid casting rubber for about £30 here:

Just wondering if anybody else thinks this might work or has tried anything similar? Any idea how lng it will take to set? I'd need to keep it hidden in the loft in an ld hifi box away from the missus once built.

The big advantage I think compared to my air and water filled baloon bellies are:

Texture - much more like a real baby belly
Weight - much more like a real pregnant belly
No risk of water burst having to be explained
Can be safely used with TENS/electrical stimulator unlike water filled balloon
Can be moulded with a flat side to fit against your own tummy unlike water or air filled balloon

I'd be very interested in views - £30 doesn't seem much to commit if it can match the results of £250 commercial products.

My concern was also how long 5 litres of latex would take to set, but it looks like white vinegar causes it to solify very quickly:

I made a thread about this awhile ago after doing lots of research into it, you can find it here:

I’m actually in the process of making one for myself at the moment, which I will be posting pics and vids of hopefully. If you have any questions about the process let me know, I can give you some tips. :)
