Khell hunkered down at the howling sound of the wind. He tail thrashed behind him in anticipation of a storm or perhaps one of the trees collapsing off its roots. He watched the rodents scatter and wondered if he too should find shelter somewhere. Suddenly, everything went deathly silent. It was entirely too unsettling. Slowly, Khell rose back up onto his feet, only for the vines to suddenly drop down into his path. The Zioruta jumped back. His claws felt a strange vibration deep in the dirt, but it wasn't like an earthquake or an animal burrowing under the ground. He couldn't figure out what exactly it was.
The vibrations distracted him long enough for a bird to swoop down on him and used its talons to snatch the rifle right out of his hands. Khell shouted in alarm. His head turned quickly, following the path of the bird as it disappeared into the trees. He didn't even hear its wings flapping as it approached. More distressing was the fact that he was now defenseless.
