Khell would have fought back if he was able. The mantis was much stronger than him and the weight of his body severely limited his mobility. He did try grabbing at the arms forcing his head into the dirt, but both his hands flew to his throat instead. The last pod was the biggest. Khell almost couldn't breath as it slowly yet surely moved up his esophagus. Gold tears dripped from his eyes and mixed with the fluorescent purple blood leaking from the corners of his mouth. Khell groaned angrily when the mantis started shoving him in the back. It wasn't helping! He slammed his palms onto the grass and lurched forward. He had to do this. He had to do this! It was either this or death.
Finally, Khell forced the seventh and final pod out. It landed in the dirt hole with a heavy-sounding thud. He dropped onto his side, limbs shaking, gasping desperately. His jaw throbbed wildly. He watched the mantis cover the seed pod with dirt and pat it flat, seeming very pleased with the results. Khell couldn't hold back a sob. Now that his body could relax, his mind grasped fully the trauma of what he just endured, and the sort of nightmares that still awaited him.
