Cameron began to feel the baby's shoulders slipping out. He breathed deeply and then, with the midwife's encouragement, began to push.

Reece continued to massage Cameron’s stomach, unsure if he should pause or not. He could feel the baby shift downwards and felt his mouth drop open slightly.

Cameron gripped Reece's hand tighter, and just felt instant relief. Suddenly, the midwife placed a newborn baby smeared with blood and mucus on his chest.

Reece felt as if the world slowed, the baby being put down on Cameron’s chest felt like it was slow motion. He couldn’t believe it was here.

Cameron looked at the child in complete shock. He had just become a mother.
"Daddy can cut the umbilical cord..." said the nurse to Reece

Reece stood up, still in shock. “Yeah, okay”, he moved around to the nurses and waited for instructions.

The women explained to him what to do. Cameron gently stroked the back of the baby, who began to cry

Reece held onto the scissors and snipped through the cord. He pulled a face and the feeling of it slicing through before moving back round to sit next to Cameron.

Cameron kissed his son's forehead, then looked at Reece with a sincere smile.
"I did it!"

“You did!”, he cheered and pulled out his phone to take some photos for Cameron to look back on. He made sure to get some of him smiling and looking down at the baby.

Cameron looked at the baby with genuine joy.
"Does daddy want to help us bathe him?" the nurse asked, approaching Reece

“Um if that’s okay?”, Reece asked, rubbing the back of his neck. He looked down and Cameron and the baby.

Cameron looked at him and gently nodded his head in agreement.
"Don't be afraid..." he whispered, and the nurse gently took the newborn in her arms.

“Okay”, Reece murmured in response. He moved close to the nurse and looked over her shoulder at the newborn.

The nurse approached a small tub for bathing newborns.
"Please take him carefully in your arms..." she said handing him the baby

His eyes widened, “oh my”, he whispered. They baby was small and cute although still dirty. He held the baby whilst waiting for the water to cool.

The nurse laughed.
"Beautiful boy... Congratulations to you," she replied

“Thank you”, Reece said and smiled. “What do we do now?”, he asked, referring to the bath.

"Gently place him in the tub, but support his head slightly," she explained

[Whoknows]

Reece bit at his lip whilst lowering his new son into the tub. He was careful to not hit his head against it.
