“No!” he said angrily, “That’s my wedding photo! It’s important to me”, he said with a frown.

Hayden moved away, hurt, “but the glass frame isn’t as important, now move over before you get hurt”.

Josh rejected his hand, “No. This is my wedding photo. Are you deaf?” he asked sharply, and began to collect the glass.

“Fine!”, Hayden exclaimed, “but don’t come running to me when you get hurt”, he turned and stormed out of the room and then left the house.

Josh sighed and cursed in his mind. He started collecting shards of glass, and when he tried to get up, he felt pain in his stomach. He gasped quietly and tried to walk on his own to the ground floor, but suddenly he felt severe pain and sank to the floor.

Hayden didn’t know what to do, he thought he could ignore that Josh was married but clearly he couldn’t, no matter what he did Josh would still be married and in love with another man. He just sighed and wondered around the streets, not wanting to turn back.

Josh opened his eyes after a few minutes. His stomach hurt, but he couldn’t move. He grabbed the railing lightly and somehow sat down on the first step of the stairs. He took a deep breath and pressed his hand on his pants

Even though he didn’t want to, Hayden turned back and slowly made his way to the place he had called home for a couple of days. He tried the door handle but realised he had locked himself out and so he decided to knock, “josh, I’m sorry”

Josh clung tightly to the railing and walked slowly on trembling legs into a rather strange position. “Hayden!” he shouted, biting his lip. He finally sat down on the step and grabbed his belly “Hayden... My stomach hurts... Damn, my stomach hurts!” he said with tears in his eyes.

Hayden could hear Josh crying out and started to panic, he tried shaking the door to see if it would magically unlock but he had no luck. “Let me in Josh!” He exclaimed, “I can’t help you from out here!”

Josh swallowed the saliva and tried to hold back his tears. He had no strength. He couldn’t get up. The pain was very strong. He bit his lip. “I can’t do it! Hayden... The terrace door is leaned. Come through the garden!” he cried, and then put his hand on his stomach.

“Alright I’ll try”, Hayden said, rushing around the side. Unfortunately the side gate locks from the inside, so he had to stand on a bin to climb over it. When he did, he was finally in the garden and able to enter the home. “What’s happening?” Hayden asked Josh.

Josh sat on the stairs, hugging his stomach with his hands and breathing heavily. “I don’t know... But I have a bad feeling”, he said, groaning in pain. “I think I’ll give birth, Hayden.”

Hayden caught a glimpse of the wet patch that had spread around Josh’s crotch, “yeah, I think your waters broke”.

“I didn’t feel it...” he said ashamed and fell, and then he firmly grabbed railings “Hayden... Do you know how to have a baby?”

Hayden stuck his arms out, on instinct, incase Josh fell, “why don’t you sit back down on the step again and I’ll help you down?” He asked. “Of course I know how to, I’m technically a live-in midwife”

“Sorry, stupid question...” he said, and after his instructions he sat down again on the stairs and waited for Hayden to help him.

“No no, it’s fine”, Hayden replied, as he made his way up to where Josh was sitting, he stuck out his hand for him to accept help.

Josh slowly put his hand on his. He looked at him seriously: “I’m afraid... I don’t know if I’m ready.”

“You’ll have to be, I’m afraid”, he said as he helped Josh to stand again. Together they slowly and safely made their way down.
