After what seemed like entire years had passed, the carriage slowly came to a stop. The man looked out at his surroundings just in time to see magnificent gates opening, allowing their carriage to enter the premise of the castle.
Meyer couldn't do much else but stare at his new castle until the carriage, which had the horses slow to a trot, came to a complete halt. It was time to get out.
Immediately after he and his family stepped out of the carriage, guards flanked them, with an extra one behind Meyer. The white haired man didn't exactly enjoy having these stone faced guards leading him around, but there was nothing he could do about it so he sucked up his attitude and followed the guards inside the massive castle.
The inside of the castle was much more awe-inducing than the outside that Meyer almost couldn't believe it. The castle he had come from was one of the largest human castles around, but it couldn't compare to this. Even his mother seemed to be thinking the same thing, but she kept her cold, apathetic expression the entire time. He briefly wondered what his father would say if he had been able to come.
"You must enter alone," One of the guards to Meyer's right explained in a deep, monotone voice once they all were standing in front of a large, ornate door. Meyer knew that, once he walked inside, he would most likely never be able to hug his family again, so before he went inside he hugged his sister and mother. They would be there for the wedding—it was a public event, after all—but he would be to busy to see them.
"Be safe, my son," His mother faintly whispered into his ear before he let go, and the royal man replied with a half smile and a curt nod, his silent message telling her to do the same. He would be fine; he was a strong guy. And it wasn't like he was going into a war or anything, so it couldn't be as terrible as it seemed.
Meyer thought he may have seen his mother's eyes twinkle for a second, but it was a fleeting moment. He had to go inside now, as the guards were going to get impatient, so with one last look back at his mother and sister he opened the door to finally meet the person he'd be forced to spend his life with.
