Shu and Wei had been at odds for several years for dominion over China. For a time, the war semmed to be in Shu's favor, until Wu broke their alliance and ambushed Guan Yu's forces at Fan Castle in a pincer attack alongside the Wei forces. Zhang Bao, a young but promising warrior for Shu, belonging to the Zhang family, was ordered to reinforce their unit. Shu was defeated, but Zhang Bao's actions allowed Guan Yu and the rest of the Shu warriors to retreat.
But this came at a cost, Zhang Bao quickly found himself surrounded by enemies. He did not sustain any severe injuries, but as soon as he regained consciousness he found himself imprisoned. His face dripped with sweat, knowing that eventually he would be publicly executed. With his arms chained to the wall and being unable to move, all he could do was wait.
