If it hadn't been teh lightning, Augustus would be entirely in the dark as to what happened to his butler. NOw that he was aware of the incident, he rushed down to catch the carriage, barking orders for the young helpers to stop it. He was too late and from the look of it, the men who were trying to kidnap Orvin weren't one of the staff of the household. He didn't recognise anyone as rugged looking as them. He rushed downstairs as fast as he could. Never had he found his vast mansion a problem until now, for when he arrived at the front door, the carriage had disappeared into the darkness outside the gate.
The lord immediately asked for his horse, and his maids were smart enough to bring him everything he needed. He leapt up the horse with the saddle, with only a thick coat over his nightshirt, and just briefly looked back with a mixed feeling towards the window where he knew the lady was probably looking at, and ran after Orvin. He could not just let this happen, and he would bring his butler to safety.
