"Hey, if you think it's weird for you, just wait till you see me in a few months. I've heard different things about the length of service. It's supposed to be dependent on multiple factors, like how your body handles the first pregnancy and how many children you end up baring. Of course some people enjoy it and stay on longer. Though I think the standard is three pregnancies. I wish I knew more, for both our sakes."

"Yeah, same here." I nodded my head and kept looking on at the people in the park. It was hard enough thinking about going through this once, to do it a few more times...I just wasn't quite sure how to feel. After a few more moments of silence, I turned myself around and started walking off, but not before saying goodbye to Jack.

"Well, thank you for indulging me this afternoon. It was fun...but...I should probably head home." I wanted to be alone with my thoughts for a bit. Having someone to talk to had helped my nerves, but now, I just wanted to be alone. Still, I wrote out my number on a piece of paper and handed it to my new-found friend. "Feel free to give me a call sometime." I smiled weakly.

"Yeah, I had a nice time as well..." I walked part like way with you and stopped when I saw your number being handed to me. "Oh, sure, I'll definitely call you sometime!"

I waited a while to respond, out of fear of seeming clingy. Though now I wondered if that seemed weird that I was being distant. It had been two and a half weeks, and our first exam was coming up, which I was nervous for, certainly hoping that Dawn was too, so I dialed the number.

In the weeks that followed, I really hadn't done too much. I knew that the exam was fast approaching, but continued to try and keep myself distracted, ignoring it so I wouldn't get too freaked out. Thus far the only real changes I'd noticed since the procedure were that I was getting tired much more easily, and I'd feel nauseous sometimes.

One morning, a couple of weeks after the procedure, I was laying on the couch napping when my phone suddenly rang. Groaning, I picked it up not even bothering to check the ID.

"Hello? Who is this?" I slowly started to sit up on the couch, waiting for a reply.

"Hey, Dawn? It's Jack. I'm calling because, well...you gave me your number, heh. Anyways, I figured with the first exam coming up, maybe we could, I don't know, go together or something. It could be better than trying to do this alone," I suggested nervously, rubbing a hand over my still flat stomach. The soreness had abated with time, but I knew now that the growth was going to begin, and I had certain responsibilities to make sure I had as healthy a baby as possible. "So what do you say, you in?"

"Oh, Jack! Hi! It's good to hear from you." I straightened my posture a little bit more, and got comfortable on my couch. Thinking for a minute about his question, I made a decision. "Um...yeah, that sounds pretty good actually. When were you planning on going?"

"I was actually planning on going tomorrow. Sorry I didn't call earlier, but....well anyway if that's too soon for you that's okay, I can go myself or try to reschedule...whatever works best, I suppose," I reply, embarrassed at my tardiness and general poor communication skills.

"No, no! Tomorrow's great! I'm free." I spoke up trying my best not to sound flustered. "And it's okay, I'm glad you're calling now. I was a bit worried you might have forgotten about me!" I let out a small laugh at this. "Honestly, I'm just...relieved I won't be going alone."

"Oh thank god. I was worried too! So anyways, I guess I'll see you tomorrow? I'll meet you in front of your building!" We finished up our conversation and before I knew it I was standing outside your apartment complex waiting for the exam. I didn't really know what to expect or even what I wanted out of the whole thing, but was extremely glad I'd have someone there to share it with.

The next day, I got dressed and met Jack outside of my building. I was incredibly nervous, but seeing him waiting for me almost instantly helped me calm down.

"Hey!" I called out to him as he turned around. "Sorry to keep you waiting. You want to get going?" I asked. The building itself wasn't far away to walk too, but I definitely wanted to get the appointment over with sooner rather than later.

"Oh yeah, we shouldn't be late!" I said as they started towards the lab complex where they'd met. It wasn't long before they'd reached their destination and saw the multitudes if other carriers waiting for their examinations. People at all stages of pregnancy waiting in line after line.

"Bureaucracy at its finest, huh?" I asked with a laugh. "Well, let's get to waiting, at least.

I nod my head and let out a small giggle as we both went to stand in one of the numerous lines. We were behind several other people who were likely also really early on in their pregnancies as they had barely begun to show. However, in the other lines next to us I could see several men and women who were much farther along. Some sporting decently sized bumps, and some so large they were waddling. Glancing at that particular line, I gestured towards it to catch Jack's attention.

"Do you think we'll end up looking like that?" I asked his opinion. "Once we're further along I mean."

"I hadn't thought about it, but I guess we will! Ugh, I'm not sure I want to end up like that..." I say, putting a hand on my flat stomach. "But we don't have too long before we look like that!" The line shuffled further along and it would soon be their turn. "Here we go..."

The attendants there soon escorted us both into the lab complex. Surprisingly enough they let us both into the same examination room at the same time. Once the attendant had left, informing us that the doctor would be there soon, I turned back to Jack with a small smile.

"I think they assumed we were together or something. I mean, they don't normally let people in together unless they think they're a couple or something right?"

"Yeah..." I said, blushing a bit. "I guess we look the part, huh? Maybe we'll have to keep coming together. Wouldn't want to ruin the illusion, huh?" I looked around the room at the equipment. Just a single bed for exams, with stirrups they hopefully wouldn't need, as well as several machines Jack couldn't guess at the purpose of.

"Y-yeah...sure thing!" I couldn't help but begin to blush a little as well at Jack's suggestion. After a few more silent moments, a doctor soon entered the room, glancing at some charts and introducing themselves before shaking our hands and asking which of us wanted to go first.

"I uhhh, I guess I'll go first," I said, getting on the examination table. The doctor made his usual rounds, asking about my eating habits and any symptoms I'd experienced so far. He lifted my shirt and prodded my stomach, smiled and looked to me.

"Well congratulations, Jack. It would appear the insemination was successful and you are officially pregnant. At your next exam in a few months we'll have a more in depth procedure and figure out exactly what's going on in there," he helped Jack off of the table and looked at Dawn. "Your turn, miss."

I nodded my head, and got on the table. I answered all of the doctor's questions as best as I could, and he examined me very carefully. After a few moments, he also smiled as he looked to me and Jack.

"Congratulations to you too Dawn. You're pregnant as well." He then helped me up, arranging for a future examination for myself as well. "Now then, would you two like to keep coming in together?" He asked us both. "Aside from saving time, we find it also helps a lot of first timers relax during their appointments."

"Well, I definitely wouldn't mind." My attention turned to Jack briefly though. "But really, it's up to Jack as well."

"Oh, of course! This went a lot better than I expected it to," I said, thanking the doctor as he ushered us out to get to his next patient, a slightly rounder woman entering behind them. As we left, I turned to Dawn, "you really want to keep doing this together? We might start getting into some things you or I may not want to share. I don't know how we'll feel about that in the future, but it's important to talk about."

I stopped to think for a moment. Was I really okay with this sort of thing? I mean I didn't know Jack all that well, but he was very kind and polite to me. He seemed nice, and yeah, he did take a long time to phone me, but he had apologized for that and more than made up for it by tagging along. Besides, I didn't really have many other friends that would be willing to help me through my service. After pondering for a bit, I turned my attention back towards Jack.

"I'm really okay with that." I smiled a bit. "I mean, thank you for the consideration, but really it's okay. I don't want to go through this alone, and you've helped a lot. If it starts to get awkward or uncomfortable for us, we can tell the other and stop. Does that sound okay with you?"
