Season of the Hunt (Closed with star478, Possibly NSFW)

Leo stopped yelling when light shone on the figure's face and Leo could see who the figure was. It was Trevor. Why the hell was Trevor trying to kill him? And why the hell was he sleep walking? Without thinking twice about it, Leo grabbed Trevor's wrist that held the knife and stepped in close to Trevor, not listening to Brayden.

"Trevor, wake up!" Leo said, shaking Trevor's shoulder that wasn't connected to the arm Leo was holding. "Wake up and look at what you're trying to do! You're trying to kill me, your best friend! Wake up man!"
Reply

Trevor merely fought against Leo's hold as his body felt no pain, even from his fractured arm and broken leg. His head rocked back a bit as if Leo did not move, it would connect with his forehead. Since Leo seemed otherwise adamant in listening, it left Brayden with a few choices to try and examine the situation. Trevor was indeed out cold, but to not be waken up from the way Leo was shaking him, it had to be something else.

"A hex" he simply said before glancing up at the moon. For something as big as the moon, it probably took little to no time in affecting the male's mind, working some of his slightly angered thoughts into a reality. The caster for the hex would also not be too far from the location as the power held on the victim was the most strongest. Brayden simply ran off into the cold night, searching for the Witch responsible.

"C'mon Trevor, wake up!" Leo practically pleaded with Trevor to no avail. Why wasn't he waking up? This didn't make any sense! Then again, none of what's happening made any sense either but that's beside the point. And where the hell is Brayden?! He was standing down at the edge of the ward, but isn't anymore. "Trevor, I have absolutely no fucking clue as to what is going on, but you gotta wake up dude! Please! Just...wake up!"

((Sorry for the delay. Got caught up with school, greek life, etc. lol. Homecoming and Mid-Terms are partially over, so I should be back.)

Brayden charged through the dark forest, scanning through the trees for almost anything; the hex placed could be from a simple charm planted somewhere to the actual person. His sights had eventually rested on a metal spike dug in the tree. Hoping this was the source, he pulled the object out and broke it instantly.

Trevor pushed Leo off, a wicked smile forming across his face.
"Don't worry. I'm putting an end to this for us both." The knife trailed into his hands once again, but unlike last time, the sound of ringing hit his ears, prompting him to double over in pain as the doors slammed open, Leo's Aunt trailing through with his parents in tow as they pulled Trevor back.

(It's okay. Had Homecoming last week so...yeah. I'm not involved with Greek Life, but still. I would have replied a lot sooner...but I had writer's block and I had to work the weekend. This is the first time I've been able to get on the computer today cuz I worked 5-ish hours, had to get dinner, and had to get back up to school for classes tomorrow so...yeah.)

Leo stumbled back to the railing, jamming the small of his back into the railing cap letting out a small gasp of pain and wincing a bit.

He watched as Trevor moved the knife in his hands, preparing to end Leo's life along with the lives of his babies, but stared in bafflement when Trevor double over in pain. Leo couldn't hear the ringing that Trevor could.

"Don't hurt him," Leo said to his Aunt and parents when they arrived, not taking his eyes off of Trevor. What happened? What made Trevor try to kill Leo? They were best friends for crying out loud! Leo then looked out over the railing of the balcony towards the tress where Brayden once was.

"Where the hell are you Brayden?" Leo muttered to himself, hopefully quiet enough so his parents and Aunt could not hear.

(I'm really not with the Greek life. The organizations just had so many events going on that I had to cover for the news, even during homecoming. One of them plans to recruit me, but I don't know how well that may turn out lol))

Brayden gripped the strange metallic object tightly as he trekked through the snow, hoping he had succeeded. If not, he prayed Leo's family had managed to save him in time. He felt useless more than ever however. He felt like Leo should have listened to him rather than try and figure out what was going on. He was not an oppressive figure to his mate, so he could understand why the male would try to figure out what was ailing his friend.

"I'm here..." He whispered silently to Leo as only he could hear his voice. "How's everything?"

Leo's Aunt followed the figures inside as they dragged the unconscious figure back inside. Her purple nails merely traced across Trevor's forehead.

"He'll be alright. Just a simple hex." Her last words were low to normal ears where only those close to her could hear, naturally at least. "I just need place another barrier around to drown out any possible waves."
Reply

(Ah. I see. Well, all you can do is just wait and see is all.)

"Trevor's fine," Leo whispered to Brayden as he involuntarily relaxed a bit knowing Brayden was there again. "My Aunt said that it was a simple hex and she'll put up another barrier in order to drown out any other waves."

Leo watched as Trevor was dragged back into the house by Leo's parents.

"What the hell is going on Brayden?" Leo asked in his continued whisper, fear beginning to enter his voice slightly. "Is there someone targeting Trevor and me because we're pregnant with werewolf babies and want us dead because of it?"
Reply

((Yea. That was interesting I thought.))

"Well that confirms who's been placing things around to keep me out. At any case, it seems like you are a target." Brayden exhaled deeply. Another crisis was averted, but Leo was becoming an easier target the further he advanced. "I need for you to find what's causing the seal or try to sneak out. I don't like you being there any further."

It was becoming an aching feeling inside of him; being away from his mate for so long. With the current situation that just occurred, it was likely they were not going to let Leo or Trevor out of their sights. That left only the barriers.

"What does your Aunt frequently do? Light candles, make tea, burn an incense? Whatever she does on a daily basis is the source of the barrier. I need you to end it effectively if it's anything lit."
Reply

Leo's heart nearly skipped a beat. Him a target? By whom and what for? Is it because of being pregnant with werewolf babies? Did someone not want him to give birth to these babies? Why? None of this made any sense.

"I don't know Brayden," Leo said fearfully, his voice cracking slightly with his fright. "There's nothing like that visible inside the cabins. For all I know, she could have them in her room. I haven't bothered to search for any of that stuff. If she does have any of that stuff I don't know of their existance. I didn't see anything in the vehicles when we unpacked. Then again, when we first arrived here, all of this was hidden from us so we would have never known. And still don't."

Leo also felt an aching feeling in his breast, though right now, he probably attributed it to his current fear when, in reality, it was from being apart from Brayden as long as they have been.

"I could try and make them see reason and have them make you an exception to the barriers some how," Leo thought. At the moment, he was just rambling trying to negate his fear. "I could try to convince them that you're the only one who can protect me and the babies.

"Or," Leo continued with a fairly brief pause, "I could convince them it would be best if Trevor and I move in with the pack. We wouldn't be a danger to the rest of the family come time for the birth. Plus, you'd be able to protect me a lot easier if I really am being targeted for something I had no control over."

"This is becoming rather annoying..." Brayden could not hide his disdain for the situation. So far, he has been the one constantly getting the wrong end of the deal. He was certain Leo was old enough to make his own decisions. Why did they need the permission of his family? Why did he need their permission to see his mate? "I'm coming in. Just have your room window open..."

It was a choice he was willing to make. As Leo said, his aunt would need to place something stronger up and since Leo was uncertain of what she was using and his friend was a bit incapacitated -he was not even sure his other relatives were of any help-, he was the only one left to take care of the situation. He was certain being the Beta of Damian's full pack had it's advantages and he was going to test them, all for Leo.
Reply

"I will," Leo said with a nod. "Are you sure you can get through the barrier? I don't want you harmed."

Good grief. He really sounded like a concerned, love-struck mate to Brayden. But isn't that what Leo is now? A mate to a werewolf? A Beta no less? He was suddenly thrown into this, so he has no idea how a mate to a Beta werewolf--let a lone a "regular" werewolf--should act. Is he supposed to act all lovey-dovey (yuck) or completely indifferent, but loving, and popping out babies like crazy, thus increasing the size of the pack exponentially? Whatever. Neither option sounded...grand, but what other choice did he have? Well, besides dying anyway.

"Just...be careful and make sure my family doesn't know you made it through the barrier somehow," Leo said. "It might get....messy if that happens. I'll go check on Trevor and leave at least a window open for you."

Leo walked back inside, closing the sliding door but opening a window just enough that Brayden could enter without any problems before going to check up on Trevor.

"I'm positive." He really was not, but Leo did not need to know about that. For now, he made his way towards Leo's window. If she had to prepare another seal immediately, that meant she would have to dispel the first. He was certain there was a major gap for him to enter and get rid of at least one seal. If he did that, all the others would not connect to shield the entire cabin.

He jumped up on the wooden surface of the cabin's exterior as his nails dug into it, offering him better support. In a matter of seconds, he made his way into room, taking for Leo's bathroom almost immediately after shutting the window back down and locking it.

"I'm in..." He simply said as the smell within the cabin became unbearable. The smell of ginger and pumpkins and Lord knows what else filled his nose, prompting him to hold his breath. "The source is whatever that pumpkin smell is. Did you see your Aunt light anything that give off that exact smell?" Judging by the waxy feel to it, he'd have deduced it to be candles, but he would wait for Leo to respond back. The male would need to hurry however as even holding his breath was having a toll on him.

Pumpkin smell? Leo couldn't remember smelling anything that had a pumpkin smell to it. Unless.....

"I think I saw my Aunt unpacking some candles in her room that gave off a slight pumpkin scent," Leo said as he tried remembering what else his Aunt had that smelled like pumpkins. "If she hasn't moved them, they'll be in her room. Along with everything else most likely."

Leo wasn't 100% sure if there was anything else in her room, but it was the only place he could remember his Aunt having anything that smelled like pumpkins.

The only reason he knew about the candles was because he accidentally walked by his Aunt's room when her door was open while she was unpacking. She had quickly closed it, but not before Leo had gotten a quick glimpse of some candles as well as a faint whiff of the pumpkin scent Brayden talked about earlier.

"It may not be much, but at least it's a start," Leo said from Trevor's room where Leo waited for Trevor to wake up. Hopefully without any memory of what just happened.

"Smells like she's got them all over the place." Brayden would try not to sniff around as much as if he inhaled anymore, he was certain to vomit and perhaps do more than that; something more fatal. Tearing a sleeve off his shirt, he wrapped it around his nose and mouth, providing him with just enough clean oxygen to get him to where he needed to go if possible. Setting out Leo's room, he stared out into the the second floor's den, moving out into silence as he moved past the several figures who were all gathered in Trevor's room attempting to help the male come to his senses.

Brayden found himself in the kitchen, where three candles were lit on the table from earlier. He spared no time in blowing them out quickly, feeling a wave of nausea leave him almost instantly. His job was not complete however as he needed to get rid of of some of Leo's aunts source materials in making those infernal contraptions. His nose twitched as the strong presence of wolfsbane emanated from a door on the far side near the living room. He instantly opened the door, closing it behind him as he found himself face to face with the box of all the poisons and wards itself, laying neatly on her bed.

Leo nodded. It would make sense if it smelled like the candles were all over the place. The scent molecules would want to be in equilibrium throughout the cabin with the air molecules. That is, if Leo remembered that stuff correctly from his chemistry professor. Like Brayden, Leo also felt his slight sense of nausea dissipate as soon as Brayden blew out the candles.

"Please, be careful Brayden," Leo whispered to Brayden before turning to his family and Trevor in order to let Brayden accomplish his mission undisturbed. Thankfully, it looked as if Trevor was sleeping peacefully, but who knew what was really going on behind Trevor's eyelids? "Will he be alright? Do you guys even know what happened?"
Reply

Brayden stared at the entire equipment. The woman seriously had a thing for making candles and other scents. It was no wonder why she smelled so irritating. No matter, his objective was clear. He needed to ruin a few key ingredients in order to make the seals ineffective...mostly.

"Almost done..." He said back to Leo while ruining the smell of the wolfsbane with some scents of his own. Within seconds, Brayden could feel the presence of sickness fading away.

-----------

"He'll be alright" Leo's mother assured him while placing a cold towel on Trevor's forehead. "A witch knew of our seals and attempted to take you and him both out through the night. Had you not been out on the balcony, the witch may have succeeded." She left Trevor alone while she examined Leo. "The question is how are you really holding up?"

Reply

Leo nodded--a quick, short nod so his family wouldn't notice.

"Tired. Sore," Leo said with a shrug. "Typical pregnancy stuff. Despite this being an atypical pregnancy.

"But honestly though? I'm confused as hell here," Leo continued, now starting to get angry. He could feel the "mother wolf" in him beginning to rise up and snap at his parents. "Why can't you guys get the fuck along with Brayden and the pack? Brayden is only trying to protect me and the babies, and if he was able to visit and check up on me more, this might not have even happened! Speaking of which, what the hell is truly going on here?! Why is a witch trying to kill me and Trevor? I want you to tell me what's going on--I do believe I have a right to know especially with what I'm now going through--right now or I'm walking right out that fucking door and never coming back!"

"We can't get along with them because they are the enemy..." She said rather coldly, her gaze as cold as ice. "You may be hormonal, but you should be sensible. They are responsible for some of the worst incidents in life." She headed out the room, returning with a thick black book that vaguely resembled a diary. "This Beastiary contains some of the most vile acts these monsters have committed all from Dracula's insurrection to the Great Drake who was the size of a mountain. If we had not intervened like we are doing now, everyone and everything would have been drowned in darkness."

She headed for the door, before turning back to look at Leo. "A witch is trying to kill you because she was hired to do so. They have no quarrels with anyone unless paid to do so and we hunt them down, so that leaves one choice left. Why do you think we're keeping you and him away from it? You were a mistake that was not supposed to happen and now they are plotting to get rid of you, so learn to wake up from someone telling you lies."

The conversation was dropped and she was gone, hefting up a shotgun. Brayden had made himself in the shadows of Leo's closet, hearing most of the incident.

Leo practically growled when his mother left.

"I'm hormonal she says," Leo said to himself, fuming. "I should be sensible she says. Bah! How can I be sensible when I'm becoming the 'enemy,' as she so nicely put it?!"

With another growl and grinding of his teeth, Leo turned to the Beastiary his mother brought in, opening it and reading it before quicking closing it in anger. He couldn't read anything right now while he was as angry as he currently is.

"And who the hell hired this witch to kill me and Trevor huh?" Leo said angrily to the air as he began pacing back and forth, trying to not punch a hole in a wall. "For all I know, it could be my own family. They don't want my blood on their hands so they decided to hire a witch to kill me and Trevor instead.

"And how am I supposed to know who's telling me lies? For all I know, Brayden and his pack could be telling me truths while my own family is lying to me so I'd stay with them and not go with the 'enemy.' This just doesn't make sense! Still! Why are they so afraid of werewolves especially? I could understand dragons and vampires, but why include werewolves?

"And above all that, I'm a 'mistake that was not supposed to happen?' Then why did this 'mistake' happen anyway? It could have been easily prevented if they had told me what we were hunting once we arrived here. Or better yet, not even brought us along in the first place!"

As Leo paced and rambled on and on about what his mother just said, he never noticed Brayden's scent in the room. Leo was too angry/annoyed/irritated to notice anything else.

The more Leo paced and the longer he stewed and rambled on, he slowly began calming down to where he stopped pacing--finally--and stared at the Beastiary, unsure if he wanted to see what it said or not.

"She's not lying..." Brayden stepped out the closet after Leo's door was slammed shut. "A lot of us have caused a lot of things in our past. That book probably has the worst of it about us. About the blood cycle."

He sat down on the bed all while Leo paced around in an effort to vent to calm himself. He began to read through the book, before the page on werewolves came to eye. He sat it down if Leo wanted to read through it, but he was going to paint just a small scenario of the situation down.

"It was in Wales, right around the post days of the Anglo-Saxons and the birth of the Normand conquests. There was an entire month of it, the moon in constant peak. Each night there was death, the figures torn practically to ribbons and a few missing figures here and there. Each night, the murders intensified until the kingdom was barely left standing around. Some Templars began to rise to the occasion and solve the murders only to come to a realization that the culprit was several and they were frightening beasts. A vast majority of them were slain before they could find an appropriate cause to put an end to them. Silver, dismembering the head from the body. Only one person was left breathing and he was far from unscathed, cursed to shift like the beasts had done every full moon."

It was a small tale, but there were plenty of others about how terrifying werewolves were. "There were recent murders as well during this cycle, but leave it to the blind eye, it was mountain lions. As much as your mother and your family are people I rather not be around, why would they harm you or him despite knowing the risk you both pose to them. I have to agree with her, someone on our end set this up."
