It had been 3 weeks since I got my assignment. There were 2 people I had to find and the deadline was fast approaching. I've been finding people for clients for the past 2 years. Most of the time it was parents trying to find their kids that ran away or had succumbed to drugs. Sometimes it was a bondsman trying to find someone who skipped bail. This time... I don't know. Mr. Smith wanted this to be a no questions asked arrangement. Normally that sort of thing triggers the alarm bell in my head. I would've said no, but he was willing to pay ten times my normal rate in cash, and I needed the money.
Turns out the assignment was a lot harder than I expected. After much searching, I finally got an address on target #1. According to his neighbor, he comes back from where ever he works in about 10 minutes.
I double checked my stun gun one last time. I didn't like taking people by force, but it was necessary sometimes. Mr. Smith said that the targets would flee at the slightest sign of danger and that they are to be bound and blindfolded and then brought in. And since the deadline is tomorrow, and I still didn't have any leads on the second target, last thing I needed was this guy getting away, forcing me to show up empty handed tomorrow night.
I look down the street and finally see the target walking down the sidewalk towards his apartment building. I exited the van, opening the side door and shuffled around some empty boxes inside as if I were a courier while I waited for him to walk by me.
