Austin's usually happy and carefree demeanor had shifted into one of a drill sergeant. The kitchen and dining area had been set up for a party, and the pregnant man bustled around, setting up appetizers and checking on his chicken in the oven. Plates and utensils were set up on one table, while he made a mental note to keep another open for desserts. Everything seemed good. Food was mostly done, table was set, and Rachel was happily playing in the other room. Austin wanted her energetic for tonight so he could show off his little pride and joy.
The doorbell rang soon after. Austin waddled into the play room and scooped up Rachel before heading to the door. He perched the baby on his stomach, making sure that his bump looked its largest. "Hello? Oh, Paul! Ethan! How are you?!" he cried, opening the door. He and Paul exchanged an embrace as best as two heavily-pregnant men could. "Put these lovely-looking things on the counter," he instructed, reaching over to hug his other friend. His belly dug into Ethan's midsection and rubbed against the unmarried man's flat stomach. Sammy decided to kick at that moment, bringing a new smile to Austin's face.
